The Love Of God

When we were young, my sister and I would get in arguments over the most trivial things, when our dad and mom would ask us to explain our position, we would inevitably have differing accounts. Dad would further investigate, and upon his discovery of the truth, the “lesser truth” would become inferior, and he’d discipline based on what he found to be the truth.

The Bible says in John 3:16 that “God so loved the world, He gave His only son; that whomever would believe in Him would not perish but have everlasting life.” One great truth you can gather from this scripture is that God SO loves you. He went to such an extreme to show His love, that He gave His only son for you. This is now the greatest standard of love, and that love is 100% focused on you. However, it’s now our responsibility to focus our love, attention, and affection back toward Him.

Jude 1:21 says “keep yourself in the love of God as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.” We have to be intentional about staying connected to God and His love. Just as my sister and I would tell two different stories to my dad and mom, the enemy tries to tell you a different story than that of the Bible. He wants to convince you that his side of the story is the greatest reality. He’ll tell you you’re not enough, you won’t make it through this, no one cares about what you’re going through. It’s important for us to understand that every single trial and lie from the enemy is an attempt to disengage us from the love of God. The enemy works through difficulty, accusation and temptation to accomplish this, but the greatest reality (truth) in our lives is that God is good, and He loves us. When we become unaware of God’s love, it’s because we’ve fixed our eyes on a lesser truth. We’ve settled for too many things that don’t represent Him.

Four quick ways to keep yourself aware of God’s love is to read the Bible, pray, stay connected to a community of faith, and confess what God says about you.

The greatest truths redefine everything else. Allow the love of God to become the greatest truth in your life. Breakthrough comes when you prioritize the truth over the lie. Today, design your confession around the love of God. Rehearse this: “God loves me” every day, and watch how this confession changes your perspective on everything around you.

God, thank you for your love for us. Your word says you will never leave us or forsake us. Even when the world around us is inconsistent, your love is constant. We know we can always trust in you. We give this day to you, knowing you will perfect all that concerns us. Our hope is in you alone. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
